PRIVATE DESERT TOUR — MARRAKECH & BACK

    OVERVIEW

Two days from Marrakech — a private desert tour that crosses the High Atlas Mountains, visits the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, follows the ancient Draa Valley through Agdez to the Zagora desert, and returns via Ouarzazate. Despite its compact timeframe, this tour captures an extraordinary breadth of southern Morocco’s finest landscapes and cultural treasures in a single overnight adventure. A camel ride at sunset, a night in a luxury desert camp, and a dawn ride to watch the Saharan sunrise are the journey’s defining moments.

Every element is private, tailored, and delivered by a dedicated driver/guide throughout.

    ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE → AGDEZ → ZAGORA DESERT

Your private driver/guide collects you from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech early in the morning. The road heads south, climbing steadily through the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi-N-Tichka pass at 2,260 metres altitude. Several stops are made along the route to admire the sweeping panoramic views of Berber villages scattered across the mountain slopes.

The first major stop of the day is the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of earthen towers, fortified lanes, and ancient communal dwellings that has become one of the world’s most recognisable filming locations. Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones were all shot here. A short walk through the ancient ksar reveals breathtaking views over the surrounding valley.

After lunch in Ait Ben Haddou or in Ouarzazate, the road continues south through the Anti-Atlas Mountains, passing through Berber communities before descending into the Draa Valley — Morocco’s longest river and home to the country’s most extensive palmery, a vast green corridor of date palms and ancient kasbahs stretching through the desert landscape. The road passes through the village of Agdez before arriving in the Zagora area in the afternoon.

You mount your camel for a ride across the desert dunes, pausing on a high dune for the spectacular desert sunset. Continue on camelback to your luxury desert camp, where a traditional Moroccan dinner is served. Berber musicians beat their drums around the campfire as the stars emerge above the desert. Overnight in the camp.

DAY 2: ZAGORA DESERT → OUARZAZATE → MARRAKECH

Rise early for a camel ride over the dunes to witness the magical desert sunrise. After a warm Moroccan breakfast at camp, the return journey to Marrakech begins. The road passes back through Ouarzazate, where you visit the Taourirt Kasbah and, optionally, the Atlas Film Studios where major productions were filmed (entrance not included). The route then climbs back over the High Atlas via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and descends into Marrakech for drop-off at your accommodation or airport in the afternoon.
