OVERVIEW

Three days from Fes to Marrakech via the Merzouga Sahara — a private tour that links two of Morocco’s greatest imperial cities through the country’s most spectacular landscapes. Starting from Fes, the route descends through Ifrane and the cedar forests to the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camel ride and night in the desert, then travels west through the Todra Gorges, the Dades Valley, the Rose Valley, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, and over the High Atlas into Marrakech.

Every element is private, tailored, and delivered by a dedicated driver/guide throughout.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: FES → IFRANE → CEDAR FOREST → MIDELT → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT

Early pick-up from your accommodation or airport in Fes. Drive south through Imouzzer to the alpine town of Ifrane — famous for its snow, low temperatures, and European-style architecture earning it the nickname “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Continue through the cedar forests near Azrou where Barbary macaques live freely. Lunch stop in Midelt. Drive through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the breathtaking Ziz Valley palm grove to reach the Merzouga Sahara desert in the afternoon.

Switch to camels and cross the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, pausing on a high dune to watch the magical desert sunset. Continue to the luxury desert camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber music around the campfire, and a night beneath an open sky full of stars. Overnight in camp.

DAY 2: MERZOUGA → RISSANI → ERFOUD → TODRA GORGES → DADES VALLEY

Rise early for the desert sunrise. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga. Visit Rissani — the ancient capital of the Tafilalet with its traditional souk. Continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilised marble workshop. Drive west through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to the Todra Gorges — where the Todra river has carved a soaring 300-metre red canyon. Walk freely through the dramatic gorge. Free lunch along the way. Continue to the Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades with stops at the remarkable “monkey fingers” rock formations and a panoramic gorge viewpoint. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

DAY 3: DADES VALLEY → ROSE VALLEY → SKOURA → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS → MARRAKECH

After breakfast, drive west to Kelaat M’Gouna and the Rose Valley — famous for its annual May Rose Festival, where locals produce perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. Continue through the Skoura palm grove to Ouarzazate, where you visit the famous Atlas Film Studios and the Taourirt Kasbah. Depart for the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — the magnificent earthen fortress that appeared in Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Drop-off at your accommodation or airport in Marrakech.
