PRIVATE DESERT TOUR — MARRAKECH TO FES
    OVERVIEW

Four days from Marrakech to Fes via the Merzouga Sahara — the ideal extension of the 3-day version, adding a full dedicated day to explore the Merzouga region in depth. This private tour crosses the High Atlas Mountains, visits the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate with its famous studios, traverses the Rose Valley and Dades Gorges, walks through the Todra Gorges, and reaches the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camel ride and night in the desert. Day 3 is devoted entirely to Merzouga’s extraordinary landscapes: nomadic families, the Khamlia Gnaoua village, the wild flamingo lake, and the date palm groves. The final day travels north through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley, the cedar forests, and the alpine town of Ifrane to reach Fes.

Every element is private, tailored, and delivered by a dedicated driver/guide throughout.

    ITINERAR
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE → ROSE VALLEY → BOUMALNE DADES

Early pick-up from your accommodation or airport in Marrakech. Drive south through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass with panoramic stops. Visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage fortified village that has appeared in Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Continue to Ouarzazate where the Atlas Film Studios can be visited optionally. Drive east through the Rose Valley — where a rose festival is held every May and the locals produce their famous rose water, perfumes, and cosmetics — then through the great Skoura palm grove. Arrive in Boumalne Dades for the night.

DAY 2: BOUMALNE DADES → TODRA GORGES → MERZOUGA → CAMEL TREK → LUXURY CAMP

After breakfast, enjoy the spectacular landscape of the Dades Gorges. Continue to the Todra Gorges near Tinghir, where the Todra river has carved a soaring red canyon through the mountains. Wander freely through the gorge and appreciate its extraordinary beauty. Free time for lunch.

In the afternoon, arrive at the Merzouga Sahara desert. Switch to camels and cross the Erg Chebbi dunes, stopping on a high dune to watch the magical sunset. Continue to the luxury desert camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner, live Berber music around the fire, and a night beneath a sky overflowing with stars. Overnight in camp.

DAY 3: EXPLORE MERZOUGA DESERT — NOMADS, KHAMLIA, FLAMINGO LAKE, PALM GROVE

Rise early for the beautiful desert sunrise. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga. The day is dedicated to exploring the remarkable Merzouga region by 4×4. Drive off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then pay a visit to nomadic families in their handmade woven tents — share Berber tea and learn how they live. Continue to the village of Khamlia, where you enjoy the hypnotic Gnaoua music and dancing of a community whose ancestors came from sub-Saharan Africa — Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Free time for lunch at a local restaurant. Take a stroll through a date palm grove, then drive to the wild Merzouga lake — also called the flamingo lake — a remarkable oasis where flamingos and migratory birds gather seasonally. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA → ERFOUD → ZIZ VALLEY → CEDAR FOREST → IFRANE → FES

Depart the desert heading north. Visit Rissani — the ancient capital of the Tafilalet, with its large traditional souk active on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Continue to Erfoud to visit one of the remarkable workshops that produce sculptures and decorative objects from fossilised marble. Drive north along the Ziz river with a panoramic viewpoint stop over the breathtaking valley. Lunch in Midelt, then enter the cedar forests near Azrou where Barbary macaques live freely in the trees. Visit the charming alpine town of Ifrane — Morocco’s “Switzerland” — before the final drive to Fes. Drop-off at your accommodation or airport.
