PRIVATE DESERT TOUR — MARRAKECH TO FES
    OVERVIEW

Five days from Marrakech to Fes through the Sahara — the most comprehensive version of this classic south-to-north Morocco journey. This private tour visits Ouarzazate and its famous film studios, the Amridil Kasbah surrounded by the Skoura palm grove, the Rose Valley, the Dades Gorges, the Todra Gorges, and the Erg Chebbi dunes for a camel ride and night in the desert. A dedicated day explores the Merzouga region in depth — nomadic families, the Khamlia Gnaoua village, and the wild flamingo lake — before the final drive north through Erfoud, the Ziz Valley, the cedar forests, and Ifrane to arrive in Fes.

Every element is private, tailored, and delivered by a dedicated driver/guide throughout.

    ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS → TELOUET KASBAH → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE

Early pick-up from your accommodation or airport in Marrakech. Drive south through the fascinating High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka pass with panoramic stops. Visit the Telouet Kasbah — the once-grand palace of the Glaoui chieftains, an atmospheric ruin of decorated rooms and carved stucco. Continue through the Ounila Valley to the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a magnificent earthen fortress that appeared in Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Continue to Ouarzazate — the “Gate of the Desert”. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

DAY 2: OUARZAZATE → SKOURA → AMRIDIL KASBAH → ROSE VALLEY → DADES VALLEY

After breakfast, explore Ouarzazate: visit the famous Atlas Film Studios where iconic productions were shot, and the Taourirt Kasbah. Drive east through the great Skoura palm grove to visit the beautifully preserved Amridil Kasbah — one of Morocco’s finest kasbahs, surrounded by ancient date palms. Continue to the Rose Valley near Kelaat M’Gouna — famous for its annual Rose Festival held every May, where local families produce their celebrated perfumes, rose water, and cosmetics. Continue to the Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades with stops at the extraordinary “monkey fingers” rock formations and a panoramic viewpoint over the gorge. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

DAY 3: DADES VALLEY → TODRA GORGES → MERZOUGA → CAMEL TREK → LUXURY CAMP

After breakfast, admire the spectacular Dades Gorge landscape. Continue east to the Todra Gorges near Tinghir, where the Todra river has carved a soaring red canyon through the mountains — a narrow corridor of sheer limestone walls. Wander freely through the gorge. Drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad for a lunch stop along the way.

In the afternoon, arrive at the Merzouga Sahara desert. Switch to camels and cross the Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing on a high dune to watch the magical desert sunset. Continue to the luxury desert camp, where a traditional Moroccan dinner is served and Berber musicians play around the campfire beneath a vast star-filled sky. Overnight in camp.

DAY 4: EXPLORE MERZOUGA DESERT — NOMADS, KHAMLIA, FLAMINGO LAKE, PALM GROVE

Rise early for the desert sunrise. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga. Dedicate the day to exploring the remarkable Merzouga region by 4×4. Drive off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine, then visit nomadic families in their handmade woven tents — share Berber tea and discover their traditional way of life. Continue to the village of Khamlia, where the hypnotic Gnaoua music and dance of a community descended from sub-Saharan Africa (Mali, Sudan, and Niger) creates an extraordinary cultural encounter. Free time for lunch at a local restaurant. Stroll through a date palm grove, then drive to the wild Merzouga lake — the flamingo lake — a seasonal oasis where flamingos and migratory birds gather. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

DAY 5: MERZOUGA → ERFOUD → ZIZ VALLEY → CEDAR FOREST → IFRANE → FES

Depart heading north. Visit Rissani — the ancient capital of the Tafilalet — and its traditional souk (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday). Continue to Erfoud to visit a workshop producing remarkable objects from fossilised marble. Drive north along the Ziz river with a stop at a panoramic viewpoint over the breathtaking valley. Lunch in Midelt, then enter the cedar forests near Azrou where Barbary macaques live freely. Visit the charming alpine town of Ifrane — famous for its snow, cold temperatures, and European-style architecture — before the final drive to Fes. Drop-off at your accommodation or airport.
